At first, I felt that the wood was very heavy and large for my hands, even if I could just hold it. When wood is this thick, it tends to crack when it dries, which limits the parts that can be used for carving the shape I pursue. Therefore, I continued carving while looking at the many layers of beautiful wood grain patterns and feeling deeply grateful for the connection that brought this Japanese cypress to me.

最初は抱えるだけでも自分の手には大変重く大きく感じた木材でした。これだけ厚みの大きな木材になると、乾燥時に割れが入りやすく、追求している形状の彫刻にとっては使うことのできる部分は限られます。そのため、その幾重にも連なる美しい木目模様を眺めながら、このひのきが自分のところに来てくれた縁に深く感謝しながら彫り進めました。
