Zelkova wood is very hard compared to hinoki. I got it with that understanding. I was an anxious, but I was relieved that it was almost as hard as I had expected. It'd take a lot of time and effort, but I began to see hope that I might be able to carve the design I wanted.

欅材はひのきに比べてとても硬い。わたしはそれを理解した上でこの欅を手に入れたけれど、わたしは不安に思っていたけれど、ほぼ想定していたとおりの硬さで安心した。多くの時間と労力を要するだろうが、わたしが彫りたいと思うデザインを彫ることができるのではないかという希望が見えてきた。
