Subtractive sculpting in wood is the exact opposite of additive sculpting, such as clay. Because there’s no going back if I carve too much, it carries the risk of a one-shot challenge. However, it also offers the pleasure of imagining how the uncarved areas will take shape.

木彫における減法造形は、粘土などの加法造形とは完全に正反対の彫刻です。彫りすぎた場合は取り返しがつかないので一発勝負のリスクがありますが、まだ彫られていない部分からは、この先どのようにかたちづくられるかを想像することができる楽しみを持っています。
