The distinct shading of the grain of this cypress creates an expression that makes the curves appear to dance. By carving shallow and deep undulations, I can't help enjoying the different dances that each one will show.
このひのきが持つ木目の際立つ濃淡がまるで曲線たちが踊るような表情を見せています。浅いうねりと深いうねりを彫ることで、それぞれがどのような踊りを見せてくれるかを楽しまずにはいられません。
By using a black background and shining a spotlight from the right side, I observed how the curves of the edges and the wood grain change in appearance.
黒い背景を用いて右側からスポットライトを当てることで、縁の曲線たち、木目の曲線たちの表情がどのように変化するかを観察してみました。
How can I make the wood grains dance? How should I carve them to best draw out their charm? And how can I envelop them with the undulations I carve?
木目たちをどのように踊らせることができるだろうか。どのような彫り方をするとよりそれらの魅力を引き出せすことができるだろうか。そしてまた、わたしが彫るうねりたちによって、それらをどのように包み込ませることができるだろうか。

The sculpture is made from a single piece of wood, and it is the only one of its kind in the world. The wood grown for sustainable forestry is used. The 'KIDEKIWHORU' logo is engraved on it. The paint is safe because it is made from natural materials and it doesn't almost smell. Depending on each monitor, the colors may differ slightly from the actual work.
